Ms. Pacheco

Hello all Third Grade Families,

This is the April 30th Newsletter. The end of the year seems to be approaching everyday. Third Grade has covered vast areas of Curriculum in all Subject Areas this year. In the next few weeks we will be completing several of our textbooks. The Handwriting Text and Religion text will be going home with your student within the next few weeks(completed). We have already completed our Grammar book and our Spelling book, and are reviewing any content area that the students may need to strengthen. Our fourth novel read of the year has also been completed. I would just like to mention that our school textbooks are a "tool" for teaching, the Teacher is the primary "tool" for Education in the classroom. Teachers follow very specific State/School Curriculum Standards and Guidelines. Teachers teach these Standards how they feel is most appropriate, which they have been trained thoroughly through Graduate School/ better known through the California Teaching Credential.

It is beneficial that we have completed some texts by this point, but it does not infer that a certain subject area is now over; and that the learning stops. I expect the students to perfect these areas and to re-study critical areas of Curriculum that I find to be crucial to their Educational Experiences. I am very excited that we will be starting the new text, The Wheel on the School, by Meindert DeJong; this Thursday, May 1st.

I am very excited to have all Mothers visiting our class this Friday from 1:30-2:45! The students are all excited and pleased that you will be coming to join in our event!

*(Please remember to e-mail me to schedule an appointment.(apacheco@nativityschool.com)) If you are having a need- please let me know when the problem is occurring,I unfortunately can't help once the matter is over, due to how rapidly the class moves. I am here to help!:) I encourage all families to come and observe my class if you feel the need. We love to have visitors in Third Grade!:) No appointments needed, please walk on in, my door is always open:)

The curriculum that we have studied for the past few weeks includes the topics listed below: Please make note that “pull” work is any extra work outside the textbook that I am using in class to reinforce the ideas/concepts presented in the textbook. Also- please take note that our class is beginning to study double digit multiplication. I would like all families to continue studying the multiplication flash cards with your children. All multiplication families should be memorized at this point in the school year. Please be advised that the multiplication tables are to be memorized by the end of Third Grade. Please continue to study with your student regarding division facts. We have Assessments daily in these areas.* Thank you to all families that have been working on the Multiplication/Division Fact Families- It really shows!

*Cross Curricular Activity dealing Language Arts & Word Problems

*Mathematical Estimation

*Mathematical /Assessments

*Units of Measurements

In Religion, our class is wrapping up the Religion text; along with many other books at this point in the year. Our class has one more Unit to complete in the Religion Text. We are completing Unit Five. Please also practice playing the Rosary with your students during May! We are attending Mass this Thursday and the students should have a Rosary with them to use, please bring one from home for this event. On May 12th, our class will be hosting the school mass at 9:00 am; all are invited to share in our celebration!

Sincerely, Ms.Pacheco-

Just as a reminder; Wednesday Envelopes will no longer be sent home from the office. I will be sending the "Notes Home" folder home every Friday with the students' work included. There is always a "hefty" amount of corrected and returned papers in the notes home folders- Please make sure you review these papers with your students. Any grade on any paper below a "D" can be corrected for a passing "C". This is why review is crucial. Please return the folder every Monday. Thank you!

The students have been doing a great job with the Enrichment work, this shows great time management skills, enthusiasm and a joy of learning! All students are so thrilled to learn new information in class every day!
* If you would like to practice Cursive with your student, and turn in the work for extra credit please visit the following web page. Since I do not have permission from the author of this site, I can only recommend it, and not have a direct link:) handwriting for kids.com
