Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year. I am very excited about all of the changes going on at Nativity and am quite ready to embark on this new journey of learning, growth and discovery with you! I am even more excited to be working with your child in the Resource Program! The Learning Resource Center will be open daily to serve students who may need academic interventions and/or help with specific content area skills. The goal of this program is to recognize and nurture the talents and strengths of every child at Nativity, while remediating areas of academic weakness and providing support, through individualized curriculums and mulit-sensory teaching approaches.
The program is designed to serve students from Grades 1 through 8 with identified learning differences (LDs). We are committed to the academic, social, and spiritual well-being of each of our students. To that end, we encourage the development of strengths and talents while supporting academic areas of difficulty. Skills in decoding, spelling, writing, math, organization and study skills are developed in the program. In addition to remediation, an advanced reading course is offered for Grade 8.
The classroom teachers refer students who may benefit from additional academic support to the resource program. The resource teacher may perform additional screenings that can provide information about a student's learning strengths and differences. Interventions may be provided for a specific length of time. The Response to Interventions (RTI) protocol will determine further participation in the program. Parents, teachers, and support staff will communicate and work together to share ideas. This will help tailor the learning program to best suit the learning style of the student. A Student Success Team (SST) may be formed to determine a specialized education plan to support your child.
Please check back regularly for classroom updates, news and information, and should you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
