February 1, 2012

Dear Parents-

This will be my last newsletter for the year. We are off to a great start for 2012 and we have a busy month coming up. Ms. Alyson McConnell will be joining us full time beginning next week and she is eager to jump right in!

February 2nd will be our 100th  day celebration. We will be doing an in-class project and I am asking the students to bring in 100 small items ( 100 of the same thing ). We will be gluing these items on posters so nothing too large and preferably nothing that may melt. Please send the items to school no later than Wednesday, Feb 1st.

Valentines day is on Tuesday, Feb. 14th and the children may bring in Valentines for their classmates. Please do not write the recipients name on the valentine as it makes passing them out more difficult. There are 35 students in the class, 22 girls and 13 boys. The children will make valentine bags in the classroom to take their valentines home in.

We will begin testing the January vocabulary words next week. Please look for the February vocabulary in your child’s homework folder next Monday the 30th.

In math, we have begun our chapter on geometry. We will be learning about various plane and solid shapes and discussing their features and characteristics.

I am no longer assigning Mathletics homework but I encourage you to continue to use this site at home. It is a great tool!

Finally, the students are completing their Personal Narrative projects and they will be on display at Open House. They have done a wonderful job! In writing this month, the focus will be on poetry. We will be learning about various styles of poetry and the students will write their own poems to recite to the class.
