Welcome to Second Grade!

My name is Christina Freitas and this will be my first year at Nativity School. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be teaching in such a welcoming community. I have recently completed the Teacher Education program at Dominican University of California in San Rafael where I received my Bachelors Degree and Teaching Credential in 4 years. Prior to my years at Dominican I attended Burlingame High School and St. Robert’s School in San Bruno. I feel that my Catholic education has provided me with a rich sense of morals, never ending love from God, and I true meaning of what it is to provide for and encourage others.

Throughout my years of school I also found joy in sports. I completed at a high level of soccer for 13 years and later was able to secure a spot on the Dominican Women’s Soccer team. I played a wonderful 3 years for the Lady Penguins before completely handing myself over to teaching. The skills that team sports have brought to my life are unmatched. I have learned what it is to be part of a team, the importance of working together, the need for consistency, and the true meaning of dedication and hard work. These are all life skills that I hope to bring into the classroom environment.

It is important to me that my students feel a sense of community. The classroom is a safe place where we work as a team to find new meanings to life’s most difficult questions, where there is no wrong answer, and where communication and teamwork rise above all of the rest. I truly believe that a classroom built around, imagination, creativity, and safety is vital in creating a distinguished learning environment. If students are able to express their ideas knowing they will be honored and accepted, they will share. If students understand that spelling, punctuation, and grammar will develop with practice, they will write. If students feel the love and respect of a teacher and their peers, they will succeed.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with my students as we explore our faith and understanding of God’s word in preparation for Holy Communion. This is a year of spiritual growth, hard work, and new concepts but together we will conquer all that God has in store for us! I look forward to working with each of you!
