Mrs. deLorimier

The goals of homework in Third Grade are:
•    To build deeper understanding of concepts taught in class
•    To develop organizational skills and encourage responsibility
•    To develop a foundation of good study habits
•    To encourage and develop independent thinking and work
•    To reinforce skills taught in the classroom

Homework encourages the development of good lifetime habits!

Time management skills are encouraged through use of the Student Planner.

Your student’s Student Planner must be taken home each day and returned each school morning.

Your third grader is taking responsibility for his/her academic achievement more and more as the year continues. If your child has other outside activities, encourage him/her to schedule homework around these events.

Please provide a quiet space and time for homework to be completed. Set routines and facilitate independence. If your child has questions, encourage him/her to re-read the directions, make guesses or re-think the problem. If you see your child is struggling or anxious about certain homework, please write me a note and let me know the problem.

Third Grade homework should be around 40-60 minutes a night. If your child is spending more than an hour on homework, please let me know and we can discuss the best approach to helping.

You can also help your child by setting priorities for homework assignments. If there is a Math assignment, do that one first. The English worksheet could be done second and finally the reading or Spelling. Work with your child to decide on priorities so that the work gets done in the most efficient way.

I usually assign 20 minutes of reading a night. This may be a book chosen by your child or assigned homework reading from school. Every two weeks or so, I will ask your child to write a paragraph about what he/she is reading.

Thank you!
