February
7, 2012
Dear
Parents,
Welcome to the busy month of February. We have been fortunate to
already celebrate our 100th day, Ground Hog Day, and a
few birthdays. We are currently learning about Chinese New Year
and we will be learning about Presidents and Lent in the next few
weeks. Here is what is happening with our academics:
Religion We are currently in the
Unit of God is our Creator. The chapter we are covering right now
is God Made Us. We have been talking about how we can talk to God
and ask him for love and guidance. Deacon Peloso is now coming in
on Wednesday afternoons to teach us Religion. He gave each
student a rosary and a Saint card which we refer to as their “Prayer
Partner.” We are learning how to pray the rosary. We will
begin preparation for Lent in the next few weeks.
Writing We have made it through all
of the letters and numbers. We need to continue the correct
formation of our letters and numbers in everything we do. We have
been practicing our printing in Spelling and sentence writing.
Math We are finishing up with
Chapter 6 this week on Tables, Graphs, and Fractions. We have had
a lot of fun with graphing and the students came up with so many things
we could graph. We will begin Chapter 7 on Addition Readiness
next week.
Language We are working on Theme 6
Sunshine and Raindrops and Theme 7 Wheels Go Around. There are
many stories that go with the themes. We are starting to read
lots of words on our Ring of Words as well as short a and i
words. Your child should know and recognize all of the letters
(upper and lower case) as well as know the sounds of all of the
consonants. If this is difficult for your child, please review at
home with them.
Science We have just begun Unit 3
Looking at the Earth and Sky. We will be looking at the daytime
and night time sky, movement of the earth, placement of the sun, and
the patterns of the moon. We will also be talking about our
Classroom theme of things that fly.
Social Studies We will be spending
February talking about Presidents and the American flag. Unit 3
is about Long Ago and Today. We will be learning about time,
family history, communication, needs, and transportation.
We
are collecting shoeboxes with lids for our Valentine’s mailboxes.
Please
continue checking your child’s head, we are not completely out of the
“woods” yet!
Report
cards need to be returned.

Dear Parents:
As we enter week 2 of
Advent it is so important to remember this special time in our
Church. Your children are learning about Advent, St. Nicholas,
St. Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, the birth of Jesus and so much more.
We will be attending mass on Thursday for The Immaculate Conception.
We had a great field trip
to SFHS to see their "student written" plays. The children
were so good and really seemed to enjoy themselves. Thank you to
all of the parents who attended.
We have a very busy
Thursday, December 8th. We will attend mass with our buddies at
9:00. Students must be in "complete uniform." Please
remember a Nativity School sweatshirt/fleece. At 1:30 we will
have a dress rehearsal for our Christmas performance. We will
also do our Christmas performance on Thursday evening. Students
will need to be in the Kindergarten class room by 6:45 in "church
attire." Parents you will leave them with Mrs. O'Hare and I and
go to the Sobrato Pavilion to "grab the best seat in the
house." Following the performance, you will locate your child in
the pavilion after the last song. We will not leave the
pavilion until all children have been accounted for.
In cooking today we are
cutting out and decorating Christmas cookies. Next Tuesday,
December 13th, we will be making Gingerbread Houses with our
buddies. Parents are always invited to help. Thank you to
all the parents who make this event so enjoyable for the
children. They really look forward to it!
On Friday, December 16th
we will have a "little" Christmas breakfast in the Kindergarten
classroom from 8:00-8:45. Parents are welcome to join us.
Our "room moms" will let you know what we need.

Dear Parents,
I hope you are having a great
week. Thank you for the great conferences last week. It was
exhausting, but so beneficial to sit down with each of you and discuss
the "most important Kindergartener" in your life. Here are
the Kindergarten happenings for the next few weeks:
Wednesday, November 23rd is our Thanksgiving
Feast and Play (with our buddies). You may bring food earlier (if
it doesn't need to be warmed). The kitchen will be available to
us for heating...but Mrs. O'Hare and I will be with your
students. The play will begin at 11:30 followed by our
Thanksgiving Feast. There was a sign-up genius for items to bring
(if you didn't get it please email Claire Zamiska)
Monday 11/21 and Wednesday 11/23 are 12:30
days. Please remember a morning snack.
On Monday, December 5th we will be going on
a field trip to St. Francis High School in Mountain View to watch some
student written plays. We will leave Nativity School at 9:45 and
return by 1:30. We will have lunch there on campus, so please
pack a lunch for your child on that day. A permission slip will
be coming home on Monday, November 21st and should be returned
ASAP. We will need parent drivers.
On Thursday, December 8th, we will have our
Christmas performance. Students will need to be here (in
Kindergarten classroom) at 6:45pm, in "Church" attire. The
performance will be in the Sobrato Pavilion at 7:00pm.
Mrs. Trelut will send out more information about this.
Just a reminder that your child is to do 15
minutes of Mathletics for homework. We sent 1 less page in
their homework packet, so please have them go on this site. You
may help them in some areas as it will need direction. They can
go on this as much as you would like.
Next week there will not be any Homework so
your child can help you prepare for Thanksgiving.
Advent begins on Sunday, November
27th. We will be learning about this class.
Happy Birthday Oliver, November 17th
Happy Birthday Joelle, November 21st
Happy Birthday Adlai, November 22nd
Oliver was our Pilot last week!
Joelle is our Pilot of the Week!
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving with family and
friends,
Mrs. Foster

Dear Parents,
I hope this letter finds you doing
well. We are covering a lot of things in Kindergarten and thought
I would share them with you.
Field Trip to Menlo Park Fire Station on
Middlefield Road is tomorrow. The list of drivers and carpools will be
given to you in the morning. Please make sure to send your child
with a packed lunch. Students must be in uniform.
Please leave their car seat/booster outside the Kindergarten
front door with their name on it. I am asking parents
to be at the K front door by 9:30 to get briefed and load seats into
their cars. I would like to leave Nativity School by 9:45.
We should be back to school no later than 2:00, just in time for
parents to go get a cup of coffee and treat before pick up.
Sheets come home on Friday to be
cleaned. Please return no later than Tuesday, November 1st.
Costumes can be brought to school on Monday,
October 31st in a bag marked with your child's name. We will have
an early lunch so that we can come into classroom and change. If
you are on yard duty, can you please come from 11:50 until 12:40.
At 12:40, the students will come into classroom to change and get ready
for the parade that will begin at 1:00. Parents are welcome to
help us get ready and join us for the afternoon. We do ask that
when we enter the "big building" you wait for us outside on the
blacktop. It is a 2:30 day.
On the Academic Side:
Religion has been learning about
God's creation. We are also learning our prayers, about Saints,
and about the holidays coming up... We will be attending church
on Tuesday, November 1st for All Saints Day.
Handwriting we are over 1/2 way
through our book and we are doing very well. The formation of the
letters is coming along and we all write our names the right way
now (most of the time). We will be learning how to form numbers
soon. The I pads have been very useful to help us with this!
Math learning about Positions is what
this chapter is about. It has been fairly easy for us.
Yesterday, we started learning about left and right, which was a bit
tricky. Some strategies to help your child would be know
which hand they write/right with. Most students who are left
handed know that, so have them pretend to write and that will be a
clue. Playing games with turning in that direction is fun and
also using thumb and pointer to form L is a way we have learned.
Good Luck!
Language has been about reading
stories, learning letters and sounds, learning some basic sight words,
comprehension, drawing conclusions...We are working on 2 Themes about
Colors and Family. We are starting to recognize and read some
words.
Science just finished Unit 1 on
Characteristics of Living Things. We took a test that is coming
home on Wednesday. Unit 2 is Exploring with Our Senses, which we
will start this week. On Friday, with our buddies, we will do a
Science experiment of making "Hovercrafts."
Social Studies has also just
completed Unit 1 on Families and Friends. We will begin Unit 2 on
"A Big Wide World." Our test for this will also be coming home
this week. We will be talking about Fire Safety and our community
around us. Our field trip of going to the fire station, park, and
library will help us with this unit.
Our extracurricular activities have
been so enlightening. In Cooking, we made some pretty
ghoulish treats. In Art in Action we are studying some
amazing artists and learning about their art work. In Music
we are learning Halloween songs and movement. Spanish has
us learning about animals, numbers, words...PE we have been
moving in our own space, throwing soft balls, and catching.
Conference letters with dates and times of
conferences are coming home on Wednesday. Please put on your
calendar. The week of November 7th is a 12:30 week, for
confernces.
Students will need to have a lunch if they are going to extended care.
Happy Birthday Lilly, October 22nd!
Last week Polina was our Pilot!
Lilly is our Pilot of the Week!
Happy Halloween and thanks for all of your
help and support, Mrs. Foster

Dear Kindergarten Parents:
I hope this finds you well as
we end week 6 of Kindergarten. The time has moved along so
smoothly and I am truly enjoying your children. They are such a
polite class, are so good to one another, and are so thoughtful to Mrs.
O'Hare and I. Teaching them is such a pleasure and they are such
sponges ready to soak up so many new things. We are cruising
along in our academics and all of our electives will begin next week.
In Religion we have been learning
about God's gift of water. We have talked about how we can
conserve water, where we can find water, a little about the water
cycle. We will begin God Gives Us the Land next week. We
will not be going to mass until November as we will be spending October
preparing and learning about the Church. Blessing of the Animals
is on Tuesday, October 4th at 2:30. I know we have cooking that
day, so if you are helping and want to bring your "caged" pet
into Kindergarten during cooking that is fine.
In Handwriting we are very close to
learning all of the letters of the alphabet. We have really been
stressing that their name be written correctly and I think we have
finally hit that milestone!!! We will continue to work on
the formation of letters. We have been utilizing
the Ipads to help us, by using an application called ABC
tracing. It is a wonderful thing and the students do very well
with it.
In Math we are still working on
Geometry and Patterns. We have been using the Sadlier-Oxford
website and it has some practice activities your child can use on
the computer. We have also been using Geoboards, Tangrams, and
the Smart board to help us learn.
In Language we have been working on
letters and sounds. We have read about "The Gingerbread Man,"
"City Mouse and Country Mouse" and "The Enormous Turnip." Please
continue to work with your child on their "Ring of Words." We go
over them at school, but it would be beneficial to be reviewing them at
home. A good site for reading is starfall.com.
In Science we have been studying
about living plants. We enjoyed sharing the seeds and were able
to identify so many. We learned that a plant needs 3 things
to grow. Be sure to ask your child. We will be starting to
learn about animals next week.
In Social Studies we have been
sharing about our families and things we do with our families. We
talked about leaders at home and school. We are practicing "The
Star Spangled Banner" and hope to sing it on Thursday of next week with
our buddies. I will keep you posted.
Thank you to the parents who have been
helping with all of our activities. We are surely keeping
ourselves busy. Following is a list of happenings for the next
week:
*Friday, September 30 Free Dress
(have appropriate shoes for PE)
*We are getting a new students, Oliver
Wagner. Be sure to welcome him and his family. We will now
have 33 students in our class, 17 girls and 16 boys.
*Music and Dance with Polina's Mom on
Monday at 2:00
*Book Bags come home on Monday and need to
be returned on Friday morning. Scrapbook Homework this
week. See note attached to homework on Monday.
*Tuesday, October 4th Cooking at 1:10,
Blessing of the Pets at 2:30 on outside Basketball Courts (where
we line up in morning).
*Thursday, October 6th possibly singing
"Star Spangled Banner" at morning assembly. (I'll keep you posted).
*Friday, October 7th first Art in Action
class in library at 1:30. I will not be here on this day as I
will be visiting my son in Manhattan, Kansas. Go Wildcats!
Do I still have your attention? Sorry,
so much is going on.
Last week Lauren was Pilot of the Week.
This week Jaimie is Pilot of the Week.
Next week Alessandra will be Pilot of the
Week.
We just celebrated Jaimie
and Iosla's birthdays who were born on September 25th.
Please return the plastic Wednesday
folder. There was a cover sheet decorated by
your child that
was in there that had your child's name and number written by
Mrs. O'Hare. That should also be returned in the plastic sleeve
so we know whose folder it is. This will come home weekly
with your child's work and should be returned on Thursday. Sorry
for the confusion.
Have a wonderful weekend and Welcome to the
month of October!

September 12, 2011
Dear Kindergarten Families:
We have had a great
start to Kindergarten as we head into week 4. Your child has been
working very hard and learning what Kindergarten is all about.
Mrs. O’Hare and I are proud of their ability to learn.
Here
are some of the things we have been learning:
Religion – We have a daily reading from the Bible.
We have learned about Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark…Ask your child
what God said at the end of each day when he was creating the
world. We have been learning how God’s Love Creates the Universe
and God’s Love Makes Me Who I am. We pray 3 times a day (morning,
lunch and dismissal) with the help of our Pilot of the Week.
Language – We have been learning about the alphabet with
and the sounds they make. We will study all of the letters of the
alphabet and then begin forming words. We have learned Nursery
Rhymes and read many stories. We are bringing in phonics so that
soon we will be able to sound out words.
Social Studies – Family and friends is
the common thread between Religion and Social Studies as we start off
the year. We learned a bit about Labor Day.
Science – We have studying about living and non-living
things. We have had nature walks, pulled weeds to look at the
structure of how they grow and what happens when they are taken out of
the ground…Please have your child bring in seeds in a brown
paper bag labeled with what type they are on the bottom of the bag.
We are going to try and learn about what certain seeds look like.
The seeds can come from something you’re eating, cooking with…
Math – We just finished Chapter 1 on Sorting and will
be starting Chapter 2 on Geometry and Patterns on Wednesday.
There were many assessments taken at the end of the chapter that will
be coming home. Most of the students did very well as it was
listening to and following directions.
Handwriting – Your child has been working on the formation
of letters and doing amazingly well. Please continue to reinforce
the printing of their name. The 1st letter is the only
one that should be capitalized. I will send home a sheet showing
the correct formation of letters on Wednesday. Please keep it and
post it where your child does homework.
Lucy Livingston was Pilot of the Week last week.
Isola Finn is Pilot of the Week this week.
Happy Birthday Lucy Livingston September 9th
Happy Birthday Lauren Zamiska September 18th
Happy Birthday Mrs. O’Hare September 18th
Have a terrific week and thanking you for sharing
your child with me,
Mrs.
