Dear Parents:

My Lenten Prayer

Dear Jesus, here I am on my Lenten journey.  Please keep me strong and faithful.  I want to try really hard to pray, to sacrifice, and to serve others.  When you were in the desert for forty days, you got tired and hungry.  The devil tried hard to make you take the easy way out.  The devil wanted you to choose darkness instead of light.  But you wouldn’t give in.  You kept your mind on your goal.   You followed your own plan.  You showed me that even when something is hard, it can be done.  I can be faithful because you were, and you are always with me.  So walk with me throughout these forty days.  Help me do what you did.  You stayed faithful.  You stayed strong.  You never forgot your goal.      Amen.

1.             ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER:  This is our first newsletter online.  We certainly hope it reaches all of our parents.  If questions or concerns arise, please let us know at info@nativityschool.com.

2.             CONFIRMATION RETREAT:  The Confirmation Retreat is scheduled for this Sunday, February 10, at the O’Hare Center at Church of the Nativity.  The Retreat will take place beginning with 12:30 Mass at Church of the Nativity and then continue next door at Vallombrosa from 1:30-5:00 p.m.  Students should dress casual, but appropriately.   If you have any questions, please contact Sister Merlynn at 289-0389.

3.             INTERNET SAFETY:  Recently, I attended a workshop on Internet Safety.  It was extremely informative.  The presenters were from Common Sense Media.  I encourage you to look on their website:  www.commonsense.com.  Remember, the Internet is here to stay.  It is our job as parents and educators to help our students be Internet safe and smart.

4.             AUCTION NEWS:  Please be sure to read the Nativity School Auction News (see attachment).  They have extended the deadline to Friday, February 15, for donations.

5.             SUMMER PROGRAM:  We will once again offer an 8-week Summer Program for students in grades K-6, June 23 through August 15.  In order to set the program in motion, we need the bright orange initial form returned that was sent home last Wednesday.    If you would like your child(ren) to attend our FUN Summer Camp, please return the form (see attachment) or call Mrs. Cassidy in the school office, 325-7304.

The Summer Camp offers age appropriate activities in arts and crafts, sports, computers, cooking, field trips, and on-site assemblies.  We will be swimming 3 days a week at Burgess Pool and walking to the Menlo Park Library weekly.  The hours of the program will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed Friday, July 4th.)

*****It is important that you respond as soon as possible, if the interest is not there, the program will be canceled.****

6.             PE JOURNAL:  Our P.E. teacher, Ms. Jo Lansdown, has supplied us with the information on her requirements for the students’ journal in grades 6, 7, and 8.  See attachments.

7.             OUTREACH:  Grades K & 7 are making Valentine centerpieces for the Glenwood Inn.  Kindergarten will deliver the centerpieces and sing for the residents of Glenwood Inn on Tuesday, February 12.  On Wednesday, February 13, Grade 5 will be going to the Sisters of the Presentation Mother House to sing for the residents after their field trip to St. Mary’s Cathedral.

8.             HEALTH:  Parents, please make sure your child is feeling better after an illness before you send them back to school.  We have many students with colds, flu, sore throats, etc.  Please help us avoid spreading germs by keeping your child home until he/she is totally well.

Blessings,

Mrs. Trelut
