February 20, 2008

Dear Parents:

My weekly visits to each of the classrooms always amaze me.  Last week surely proved to be a busy week for Nativity School.

Kindergarten, along with their 7th grade buddies, planted daffodils by our flamingos.  Nativity will now have yellow daffodils surrounding our pink flamingos.  Both grades will make sure the daffodils get watered.

Grade 1 was very busy learning about Abraham Lincoln and what it means to be President.  Some very interesting comments regarding the Presidency were shared.

Grade 2, along with Grade 4, is very busy making a special video.   They are also making booklets on George Washington.

Grade 3 prayed for all of us as they visited the beautifully restored Stations of the Cross at Vallombrosa.  Father Roland was very impressed with the children and their readings on each Station.

Grade 4 shared their Valentine cards which they made for our construction workers as a thank you for all their hard work.  Please stop by the Menlo Park Library from February 15-March 20 to view our 4th graders artwork on display.  The featured artist is Henri Matisse.

Grade 5 visited our beloved Sisters of the Presentation at the Motherhouse in San Francisco.  Sister Constance, Sister Michaeline, and Sister Corinne were so proud to have the children come.  The children sang many of their favorites for all the Sisters to enjoy.  It was a beautiful afternoon visit.

Grade 6 focused on their recent Outdoor Education Week at Walden West preparing a slide show in Science to chronicle their experience.

Grade 7 -- Impressed is the word, as I sat in on each group’s power point presentations of Medieval Europe in Social Studies.  They did an amazing job!

Grade 8 – Leaving for their trip to Yosemite is the major focus.  They are showing little stress as they await news from the high schools.  Also, they are great ambassadors opening doors for visitors and helping whenever necessary.

The week also brought an email from one of our Dad’s in Iraq to tell us he received the Principal’s Newsletter:

“I thought I should say hello...  to everyone.  Taking a little break and I happen to chance on our newsletter.  'Twas neat and thank you, nonetheless, for thinking of us out here.  I mean for us that aren't there, or cannot be there.  Well, I hope everyone had a great holiday and that all is well.  Please do extend my deepest gratitude to Mrs. Trelut, the staff and to all the teachers for doing so well at what they do; for the support they all have rendered to my family (especially my boys - Justin and Julian).  I am humbled...

I do hope that my sacrifice for and service to our beloved country can start to scratch even the surface for all the things you've done for my family.  I can never say thank you enough.  Do know that you are all in my heart and prayers...

One more thing, please tell my boys to "...go tell the Spartans" that their father has been courageous, and wrought in fortitude in spite of adversities, that he loves them so much - that love, truly is, the anchor...

Finally, I would like to present the school the flag of the US when I get home.  It was flown for 9 hours and 11 minutes.  It flew proud in the face of the enemy and the colors never ran!

Thank you again for this little moment to say what I wanted to say for so long.  I was a bit busy... hehehe  Thank "you" for being the medium Ms Secretary :)

SFC Verbo, Ernest”

Please join me in praying for our service men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Amen,

Mrs. Trelut

Principal
