Dear Parents:

1.  ROSARY IN HONOR OF MARY:  On Monday, May 3, at 1:30 p.m. the entire student body will participate in the Rosary at Nativity Church.  The month of May is dedicated to the devotion of our Blessed Mother.

2.   UPDATE ON  MR. VAN HORN:  Mr. Van Horn, parent of Dylan (Grade 4) and Rick (Grade 6) still remains at Loma Linda Hospital in Intensive Care on a ventilator.  Surgery is not imminant.  The boys have returned to school under the care of their family.  The family would like to express their gratitude for all the outpouring of kindness and prayers that the Nativity community has shared.  Please continue to keep the family, and especially Mr. Van Horn, in your prayers.

3.   LAP-A-THON:  The excitement is building - the anticipation is growing!!  We are all looking forward to our annual Lap-A-Thon this Friday.  We are so grateful to the Sheeper Family for donating the key raffle prize of a great bicycle.  We still need volunteers.  Parent volunteers should arrive at 8:00 a.m. and be ready to have fun and help!  Sponsor sheets should be turned in by this time.  "Parents/relatives who would like to do laps with their children can bring a $25.00 donation check the day of the Lap-A-Thon."
On Friday, April 23, students should wear sunscreen, bring a hat if they want to, wear appropriate exercise clothes with a clean shirt or sweatshirt if they want to change or add warmth when finished and no open toe shoes -- only athletic shoes.
The students will receive their sponsor sheets back to collect the pledges.  Sponsor sheets and pledges are due back to school on Tuesday, May 4.
Parents interested in volunteering, please contact Maryclair Thomas or Lisa Sheeper.  Service hours for this year must be completed by April 30th.
The time-line for the Lap-A-Thon day is as follows:
                  9:00-10:00  Grades 6,7,8        10:30-11:30  Grades 3,4,5         1:15-1:45  Grades K, 1, 2

4.  PANCAKE BREAKFAST:  The Nativity Men's Club will be serving a Pancake Breakfast this Sunday, April 25, at the Sobrato Pavilion after all the morning Masses beginning at 8:30 a.m.   The cost is $3.00/person.

5.  SPRING RIB FEAST:  Hopefully your calendars are marked for the Nativity Men's Club Sring BBQ Rib Feast, Saturday, May 1, 6 p.m.  Cost is $10 per person, $5 for kids 12 and under.  RSVP's are due by April 26.  See enclosed flier.

6.   NO BULLY WORKSHOP:  Soul Shoppe presented the third of three workshops entitled, "Free To Be" on Monday.  The students were taught what it takes to be a safe "bully-free" school, tools to feel safe and empowered and how to put C.A.R.E. (Connection, Appreciation, Respect, Empty) into action.  Four sessions were held for the different grade levels:  K-2, 3-5, 6, and 7-8.  It was a very worthwhile event with insightful interaction and participation by the children.

7.  KINDERGARTEN CHESS TEAM:  Nativity's Kindergarten Chess Team won 4th place in the CalChess State Championship tournament this past weekend in Santa Clara.  The team included Andrew Long, Peter Matsakis, Nathan Sacaria, Max Pflaging, and Michael Pflaging.  You can stop by the office to see their trophy.

8.  STUDENT COUNCIL:  There will be a Student Council information meeting on Friday, April 30, in the Grade 5 classroom at recess, 9:50 a.m.  Students interested in running for Student Council shuold plan to attend.

9.  EARTH WEEK:  On Earth Day we should all think of ways to help our planet - and actually follow through with our plans. We should all try to save our beautiful planet by fixing one bad habit.  Some of those bad habits could be taking very long showers, littering frequently, throwing recyclables in the trash, etc.  You could pick anything to work on!  This is our planet!  We should help it so not only we can have a brighter future, but future generations can too.  It all starts with you.

10.  FINANCIAL AID:  Applications and accompanying documents were due on April 15.  If you have not already turned yours in, please do so immediately.  Contact Kathie Sheridan if you have any questions.

Blessings,

Mrs. Trelut
