Dear Parents:

1.  FRIDAY, MAY 23:   After school "pick up" on Friday, May 23, will be at Nativity Church due to tree removal/construction.  "Drop off" in the morning will remain at school.
Tuesday, May 27, both "drop off" and "pick up" will be at Nativity Church.  Thank you for your understanding.

2.  MONSIGNOR'S  ANNIVERSARY:    Last Friday morning, the students of Nativity School  took part in celebrating Monsignor's 30th Anniversary in a very special way.  He appreciated the cards and banners from each grade.  Many of us also shared the barbecue dinner after Mass  Saturday to make the celebration complete.  We must commend our Dad 's Club once again for doing an outstanding job!

3.   ALTAR SERVERS:  Applications are now being accepted for students in grades 3-7 who are interested in  becoming an altar server.  The application is available on the Nativity Church website, www.nativityparish.org.  The applications should be filled out and returned either to Father Roland directly or to the school office.  Training for new altar servers will be held  in September on a series of days after school.  Dates and times for altar server training will be announced at a later date.  Once the new altar servers have been trained, there will be a special installation at one of our monthly school Masses.

4.  TREE LOT:  Please make sure your calendars are marked for the Tree Lot meeting tomorrow night, Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the Library.

5.  AUCTION NEWS:  We are delighted to announce that Auction '007 - The Nativity Bond raised $96,098.07 for the building campaign.  In addition, Fund A Need will receive $6625, earmarked for new sports uniforms.  Thank you to all the volunteers, alumni student volunteers who supported the auction with the generous gift of their time, talents, and assistance, all the school parents and parishioners who attended the auction and especially to our Co-Chairs Kathy Pompili and Legia Oswald.  We are very excited to share with you that Christina Umhofer has graciously stepped forward as auction chair for 2008-2009, and her first meeting is Wednesday, May 28, 7:00 p.m. at her home - 147 Warwick Street in Redwood City, off Edgewood Road, three blocks behind Stack's Breakfast.  If you are interested in helping, please call Christina at 368-1333.  Nativity's next auction is tentatively scheduled for February of 2009.  We send our best wishes for a very successful event!

6.  STUDENT COUNCIL:  Due to the overwhelming response to the Student Council campaign, student speeches will be given on Thursday morning, as well as Friday morning, at 8;30 a.m. outside in the picnic table area.  Thank you to everyone for your enthusiastic participation in this year's election process.  Campaign posters went up for display on Monday and are wonderful.  Good Luck to all!

7.  GRADE 5 PARENTS:  There will be an Outdoor Education Informational Meeting for Grade 5 parents on Thursday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the Grade 6 classroom.  Our trip next year will be October 6-10, 2008.  It is important that all 5th grade parents attend.  Outdoor Education Science Camp will be early next school year - October 6-10.

8.  PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY:  Miss Blair Hamilton sat in as "Principal for the Day" last Thursday, May 15.  Miss Hamilton did an amazing job handling a very busy schedule.  She toured the construction site, met with the Student Council, and authorized extended lunch recess for the students.  Her day was documented as an addition to "Hard Hat News."  Please click here to view a peak of the gym.

9.  CARNIVAL:   Calling all singers . . . The Carnival entertainment is looking for Nativity students that want to sing on the new stage on Saturday at the Carnival.  If you want to sing a song at the Carnival on Saturday afternoon, please contact Mr. Russ Castle at 650-722-3974.  He has all the details.

10.  TRACK SPIRIT FESTIVAL:  Great accolades for our Nativity Track Team's stupendous Fourth Place finish overall at the PPSL Track Spirit Festival at Chabot College last weekend.  We also must commend 6th grade girls for receiving  First Place in the Track Finals and 6th grade boys for receiving Third in the Track Finals.  Thank you to all the coaches for a Great Job!

11.  SACRAMENTO:   Our 4th Graders had a fantastic time in Sacramento.  They visited the Railroad Museum where they were able to see replicas of the building of the Transcontinental Railroad as well as view actual train engines and railway cars.  Their visit to the Capitol Building began with lunch on the lawn, a tour of the building, a visit to both legislative chambers, and a visit to the outer office of the Governor's main office.  A big "Thank You" to the Navat Family, Aces of Sandwiches, for lunches for our students and chaperones.  A special thanks to the chaperones, who accompanied the students, as well as Mercury Bus Tours, who kept us safe and comfortable and returned us home ahead of schedule.  Sacramento was enjoyed by one and all!

12.  CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!:  We are taking sign ups for the 2008-09 school year for Art in Action Docents and Helpers.  Please consider volunteering for this wonderful program.  This is a fun way to get volunteer hours towards your service hour commitment.  Please fill out the attached form and return it to the office.  If you have any questions please contact Donna Badgett at 261-0981.  Thanks in advance for your support!
