| 1. PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: Enclosed in this week's envelope is a letter regarding Parent-Teacher Conference Week, which is scheduled for November 9-13. Please read the letter and respond with your 1st and 2nd choices by Friday, October 23. The reports cards will be sent home Monday, November 9, with your child. Report cards should be returned at the time of conference. |

NATIVITY SCHOOL APPEAL:
By
now, you
have all received your Appeal letter. We are fortunate to have
Natalie Barrales, Nativity Class of 2000, as our Alumna guest speaker
at
each Mass on Sunday, October 25. Remember all contributions are
greatly appreciated to continue making Nativity affordable for all. |

HARVEST FESTIVAL: The weather is getting chillier and the
days are getting shorter. Fall must be in the air! PTG is
celebrating the season by presenting the Harvest Festival 2009 this
Sunday, October 25th, after the 9:30 Family Mass. Come join us
for a
pancake breakfast and lots of fun. See the school website for

PARENTS EDUCATION NETWORK: Nativity is a member school of
Parents Education Network. This group provides parent education
and support, professional development and training for parents and
teachers, and student support and mentoring through SAFE Voices.
Their mission is: education, collaboration, and empowerment. The
PEN speaker series is available to Nativity parents with deep
discounted prices. Some upcoming events are: A book reading with Joan Ryan, author of "The Water Giver" 10/29 at St. Pius 7PM (free or suggested donation of $10) "The Science of Exercise and the Brain" by John G. Ratey, MD 11/16 at Burke's School in San Francisco. More information is available on their website: http://www.parentseducationnetwork.org. |
| 6. FLU SEASON: Attached is the first in a series of bulletins regarding the flu season. We are hoping to provide information and suggestions on prevention. |

ART IN ACTION FALL SHOW: Congratulations to the following
students who are being featured in the Art In Action Fall Show at the
Menlo Park Library: Ryan Brouchoud, Lindsay Badgett, Virginia
Aldridge, Andre Abad, Dorothy
Aldridge, Mavis Warner, Arrin Skelley and Phyllis Tameilau. Their
work was selected out of all the 2008-2009 completed AIA
projects! Please stop by the library to admire their work on
display until November 13th. |
| 8. HALLOWEEN PARADE: Grades K-8 may dress up for the Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30, at 1:30 p.m. We want to continue our philosophy of supporting non-violence and respect for human life. The following is a reminder of the guidelines for acceptable costumes for our Halloween Parade: no weapons, no costumes that represent a character that is macabre or gory, and no excessive make-up. The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. going through each of the classrooms. We will exit from the 8th grade outside doors and move onto the big grass area in a huge circle, then return to the classrooms. Dismissal is at 3 p.m. |
| 9. BASKETBALL SIGN-UPS: Enclosed
are basketball sign-up forms. All forms and fees to participate
in basketball -- girls and boys, grades 4-8 -- must be in by October 30
. Basketball
forms are due 10/30, no exceptions! |

NO BULLY WEEK UPDATE: Thank you to all our parents who
attended a very informative No Bully workshop presented by Nicholas
Carlisle last Wednesday evening. Your participation was
phenomenal. All who attended were able to take home strategies to
help your children's self esteem. Nicholas also gave scenarios
for group discussion on various examples of bullying which was
extremely beneficial. We also enjoyed the student workshop given
by Soul Shoppe of San Francisco last Thursday. Our students will
benefit by additional workshops in February and April. Student
Council judged each classroom and office door on October 16th.
The awards presented were as follows: Most Creative - 1st Grade;
Most Colorful - 3rd Grade; Best Message - Mrs. Trelut and Mrs.
Schaukowitch; Best Effort - Kindergarten; Best Presentation - Mrs.
Hanley and Mrs. Cassidy; Most Fun - 2nd Grade; Most Artistic - 7th
Grade; Most Organized - 4th Grade; Most Environmental - 6th Grade; Most
Spiritual - 5th Grade; Most Influential - 8th Grade. |
| 11. KEPLER'S BOOK FAIR: Nativity
School will be hosting a Kepler's Book Fair in our Library, Tuesday
October 27 through Friday, October 30, 8:00-3:30 p.m. There will
be an adult book club coffee Thursday, October 29th in the Library at
8:15 a.m. A Kepler's representative will give a talk about the
most recent book club books that will be available for purchase at the
fair. Kepler's book fairs focus on literature of the highest
quality. Nativity School is proud to host this fair in order to
help promote a solid reader. Reading is the foundation to
academic success. 20% of total sales from the book fair will
benefit Nativity School. If you are unable to make it to
the fair, you may shop on-line using the Kepler's link on the Nativity
School website, www.nativityschool.com. Each time you shop at
Kepler's please
mention Nativity School and Kepler's donates 10% back to the school
each
quarter. Mrs. Christa
Enns is in desperate need of more volunteers Tuesday through
Friday. We have enough
volunteers for set up. Please refer to our

| 12. GRADE 8 PARENTS: Please note calendar change due to a conflict with St. Francis High School. Grade 8 Confirmation Parent Meeting has been changed to Wednesday, November 18, 7 p.m., in the O'Hare Center |

SMART BOARD ARRIVED:
Grades 8 is the recipient of our first Smart Board. Mr. Hickam
used it in Science Class on Igneous Rock to the excitement of his
students. We are anxiously awaiting a second Smart Board that
will be installed in Grade 5. |
