Donato di
Niccolo Bardi was born in 1386 in Florence, Italy. His friends
and some family member called him Donatello. He
went
to school for for a long time, but instead he practiced arts and
crafts.
Stonemasos' guild is where he first
started to sculpt and do many other artist things. Then he
became apprentice to Lorenzo Ghiberti. With
Ghiberti he practiced sculpting and want to become a master. In
1407 he decided to go to a cathedral in Florence. In 1408 He made
David a great sculpture that brought him a lot of fame. that was
the start of Donatello's great career. After he stayed in
Florence, but also took trips around Europe to sculpt. He was
paid by people to do many of his magnificent sculptures. He also
did some of his own with other great artist in his time. Then in
1466 he died in his birth place Florence, Italy. He left two
unfinished preaching platforms behind.
Accomplishments
Donatello was a
awesome sculptor that work with bronze and marble. In his early
life he used a graceful gothic style then later changed to
classical. He inspired many other artist to paint in the classic
style. He won the Competitions for the Doors in 1402 and got
some recognition. One of his most famous paintings is David which
he redid in 1416 and is in Bargello, Florence today. The bronze
equestrian (white horse) was a sculpture that helped start classical
art in the Renaissance. A couple of Donatello's famous paintings
are David, St.
Goerge, and St. Mark.
