

| Biography: Johannes Gutenberg was born in Mainz, Germany in 1400. He was the son of Friele Gansfleisch and Else Wyrich.. Johannes had two other brothers as well. He was born into a very wealthy family which had enabled him to have many opportunities for education. Johannes had loved to read books. At this point in time these books were handwritten and had taken many months to complete, so they were very expensive. The books cost and time that was taken to write them encouraged him to create a printing press. He had trained ot become a goldsmith from his uncle. |

Accomplishments: Gutenberg had created a metal movable printing press. He began to create this type of printing press by experimenting with printing in 1438. Gutenberg had finished creating his movable metal type of printing press in 1440. These metal movable blocks were hand made by Johannes and were in the gothic type of text. This printing press made it easier and faster to produce books. They say that he probably had started to print the bible in 1450’s. He has made a huge impact on our life today. |
